The Constellation Orion

Orion is one of the most recognizable features in the northern wintertime night sky. There are many, many versions of the Orion myth. Orion was the son of Poseidon, Greek god of the seas. He was an accomplished hunter; those looking at the constellation see either a shield or trophy kill held high in his left hand while his right arm wields a club. So boastful was Orion of his hunting that he claimed able to kill all the earth's species. Instead, he fell victim to a lowly scorpion.

He is faithfully accompanied by his dogs, Canis major and Canis minor.
